Hugh, you've been my favourite writer for almost two decades now. Thank you so much for your imagination, your wisdom. These gifts have enriched everyone who read your novels.

Much love to you and your family during this difficult time.

I found my first hugh cook book in an opportunity shop years ago - it was the women and the warlords! what a way to start!- I would have to say it is one of the best books I have read written with women characters, never mind being a great fantasy read as well- and then I have tracked down nearly every one of the rest of the series from here and there in bookshops around Australia. I found number 9 hiding in a second hand bookshop in Port Fairy in Victoria! The fact that it is hard to find these books means to me that people who have found them, love them and keep them to read over and over - just like I do.
Hugh is a fabulous writer - definitely one of the hidden treasures of literature.
Good thoughts to hugh and his family at this time after Easter.

Angelina, there are alot of people just waiting to hear if Hugh Cook is still around!

I bought my first Hugh Cook book when "Wizard War" (as it was called in the states, was newly released. The cover of that first edition was nicely textured. A few years later I picked up his few other US released books, and that was that. Before the internet, there was no way I could know that he wrote many other books and short stories. I didn't even know that the Drake Douay book had a second half!

I remember thinking in High School "when I get rich, I'll track down Hugh Cook and have dinner with him!"

Before the internet, authors were impossibly anonymous. But as soon as I figured out I could google him, I did.

At first I just found his name on short story lists, and I resolved to track down those obscure magazine anthologies.

Then I remember being thrilled finding I could buy more "Chronicles" books from Amazon.uk, even though I am in the US.

But it wasn't long before I found his first blog Zenvirus. Happy days! I emailed him a few times, and he even responded back. It was a huge thrill for me to have been named a couple times in his blog when I suggested he write "Chronicles" fan fiction!!

Unfortunately, my employer blocked emails from his server, so I was cut off from corresponding with him, and now I really, really regret that.

But if Hugh's novel writing career really is over, I am just so grateful he had the wherewithal to write so much in his blog.

Has anyone ordered his books from the print on demand sites? Does it work still? I think I'll want to do that very soon!

err.. flash fiction. I suggested he do Chronicles FLASH fiction.

It would be impossible for him to do Chronicles fan fiction..

..unless he did it under a pen name , I suppose.

I assume he's still in New Zealand - I've checked the obituaries online from nzobits.co.nz a few times and not found his name (as of 1 pm 18/4/08), so...
